Skegness & Horncastle Ramblers was formed on 1 January 2015 by the merger of Horncastle Group (founded August 1982) and Skegness Group (founded January 1992).
The Group, like many, struggled to survive after the pandemic of 2020-2021 with many members deciding not to erturn to group walking, but a determined few kept the Group ticking over, and slowly, but surely, membership increased and now (2026) stands at around 75-80, with 15-20 joining us on the walks we arrange.
We are one of nine local Ramblers groups in the county of Lincolnshire who enjoy the outdoors, walking the local footpaths and bridleways. Our group is located in the east of the county with members in Skegness, Horncastle, Spilsby, Wragby, Alford, Mablethorpe, Wainfleet and surrounding villages.
Our small, friendly, sociable group meet weekly for Thursday walks of between 7 and 11 miles. Newcomers are always welcome to join our walks. Below is a map of the area covered by our Group – most of our walks take place within this area, though you can join our Group if you live elsewhere – as many of our members have done.
Our experienced walk leaders know the best, most scenic routes as well as having knowledge of local history. Join us for a walk or two before deciding to become a member of the Ramblers.
For most of our walks, there is no need to book. Please wear appropriate footwear and if there is any change of rain, waterproof clothing should be carried. Adequate food and drink should be brought on our longer walks. We look forward to meeting you and walking with you soon!

The Ramblers is Britain's biggest charity working to promote walking and to improve conditions for all walkers. With around 110,000 members in England, Scotland and Wales, we've been working for walkers for over 90 years. Through our network of dedicated volunteers and staff, we support all who walk, from beginners to experienced enthusiasts, family groups to solitary strollers and the very young to the young at heart. We have over 500 Groups across Great Britain, organised into around 50 Areas, including around 50 Groups for 20s-30s and family walking groups.
As an environmental organisation, we work to encourage walking, open up public footpaths, protect the countryside. We have been involved in many important campaigns and it is largely through our work that today's legally-protected network of public footpaths exists.
We have also been at the forefront of several key campaigns to protect the environment, such as the fight to stop the privatisation of Forestry Commission land and have long been at the forefront of the fight to stop opencast mining. We also work against other threats to the natural environment, such as housing developments on green field sites and hedgerow destruction.
